More than 10,000 people will Lose their Jobs Because of Diarrhea Outbreak in NBP

Atty. Lorna Kapunan and Mang Kiko Catering Services Inc. Attorney Navarro held a presscon last June 6, 2017 at Max Restaurant QC Circle to deny the allegations that their food caused the diarrhea outbreak that happen in National Bilibid Prison.

Mang Kiko Catering Services is appealing to the President to intervene in the issue for it will greatly affect not only the name of the company which has been serving the penitentiary for 11 years but the 10,000 and more people who serves and supplier who are connected in making sure the prisoners received adequate and nutritious food every day while serving their term. A total of 369 prisoners also earn their living by being part of Mang Kiko’s Catering services.

According to Atty. Kapunan:

It was found out that the diarrhea outbreak was cause by water contamination. This was also due to the century old pipe lines that need to be rehabilitated way back years ago.

Mang Kiko Catering is still the concessioner of National Bilibid Prison by an emergency contract since no concessioner has been selected fit enough to serve the NBP.

Lastly, Mang Kiko management and Atty. Lorna Kapunan is requesting that NBP Director General Benjamin de los Santos, head of BuCor, be able to release the notice award and notice to proceed since they won the bidding last year prior to the outbreak.

The budget for every prisoner is P50 per meal per day. Each meal has 2000 calories and provide with soup, vegetable, rice and viand. A nutritionist was employed to make sure that this are followed.
