GSK and VMV cancer awareness campaign: Put on Your Power Pout

When my mom died of cancer two years ago, I become more aware of my health. I am now on my third shot this coming August for my cervical vaccine and that is why I was so interested to attend the latest campaign by GSK for cervical cancer awareness month.

GSK Philippines together with VMV hypoallergenic launched the Put on Your Power Pout! the event was held last May 28th at Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

Cervical cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death cancers among Filipinas and I don’t want to be one of them and I know that you too won’t let it happen. The cervical cancer is a risk for women, regardless of race, age, lifestyle and or socio-economic status. Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells develop and spread in the cervix. The HPV or human papillomavirus is a very common virus, and the cause of the cervical cancer. It can be transmitted via sexual intercourse or skin to skin genital contact .So it you’re saying there is no penetration happenning and you are safe; then you are wrong. Better think again if you are fun in doing the casual sex thing.

Lifestyle change can help prevent the development of cervical cancer, like the sticking to your partner (one), have regular checkup and pap smear for early detection and if it’s not yet malignant as my OB-Gyn told me, get the cervical vaccine.

But remember, getting the cervical vaccine doesn’t mean you can go running around because you still need to be careful and have a pap smear every 2-3 years.

Now going back to the campaign by VMV and GSK, the partnership introduces a twist on spreading awareness; encouraging women to join the moment by wearing purple lipstick to show their support for the advocacy on cervical cancer prevention.
