Schneider Electric rises to 10th place in the Newsweek Global Green Ranking 2016

  • Company leapfrogs to 10th place from 25th in 2015

  • New ranking a testament of company’s vision to produce technologies that ensure Life Is On everywhere, for everyone, at every moment

  • The ranking progression also acknowledges the commitments taken by the company at COP21

At the end of 2015, COP21 raised enormous, legitimate hopes worldwide that citizens, governments and companies would coordinate their efforts to limit the causes and effects of climate change. Just a few months later, the Newsweek Global Green Ranking 2016, the global listing of the most environmentally friendly corporations produced by U.S. weekly news magazine Newsweek in partnership with Corporate Knights and HIP Investor, has commended the environmental commitment made by Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation. The Group is proud to be ranked 10th, alongside other reputable companies such as Shire Plc., Reckitt Benckiser, and British Telecom.

Driving Innovation at Every Level for Sustainability

The high scores obtained by Schneider Electric reflects the Group’s proven track record in driving innovation at every level through connected energy management and automation technologies that reshape industries, transform cities and enrich lives. At Schneider Electric, we call this Life is On.

We are very pleased with the results of the latest Newsweek Global Green Ranking. It shows that we have the right sustainability strategies and innovation roadmap in place. We want everyone on our planet to have access to safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable energy. We are committed to providing innovative solutions that address the energy paradox: balancing our planet’s carbon footprint with the irrefutable human right to quality energy.

said Gilles Vermot Desroches, SVP Sustainability at Schneider Electric.

The big jump in the ranking also results from the company’s initiatives in using natural resources wisely, including renewable sources, in its global operations. The ranking recognizes the 10 commitments taken by Schneider Electric at COP21 for the company and its ecosystem to achieve carbon neutrality over the next 15 years, through its products, solutions, R&D and industrial operations.

These commitments include:

  • Measuring the carbon impact of 100% of major client projects
  • Designing 100% of new offerings using the Schneider ecoDesign Way™ and achieving the company’s Green Premium™ standard in 75% of its business
  • Avoiding 120,000 tons of CO2 by introducing “end of life” products in line with circular economy principles
  • Helping 50 million people at the base of the economic pyramid to access lighting and communications over the next 10 years through low-carbon solutions

Schneider Electric’s environmental and sustainable development performance is reported quarterly through its Planet & Society barometer. Schneider Electric’s sustainable development strategy has also been recognized by other organizations such as the CDP which has named in November 2015 the Group as a world leader for its corporate action & transparency on climate change for the fifth consecutive year.
