Apple iPhone 6 launched: official specs, photos, and features

PHILIPPINES (UPDATED) – The Apple iPhone 6 is launching today at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts, in Cupertino, California, USA. For those of us living in the Philippines it may take a while before the iPhone 6 becomes available. There is currently no word yet from any of the local carriers (Globe Telecom and Smart Communications) on the release date of the iPhone 6 in the Philippines. We expect that the retail price of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to be around ~25-30K PHP when it is finally launched locally.

While waiting for the iPhone 6 to become available, those of us living in the Philippines will have to content ourselves with second-hand information coming from the U.S.

Days before its release, China Mobile already leaked a lot of information about the much-awaited phone to the public.

According to the leaked info, the 4.7-inch model will come with sapphire glass, a scratch-proof material stronger than Gorilla Glass. Apple today confirmed that the iPhone 6 screen will also be scratch-resistant, dust-resistant, and water proof just like the Sony Xperia Z2. However, there is no confirmation yet if the iPhone 6 indeed uses sapphire glass as its protective material.

There are two models, the first one to be released is a 4.7-inch iPhone 6, as well as a larger, phablet-type 5.5 inch version called the iPhone 6 Plus. Both models will be powered by iOS 8 natively. It also supports voice over LTE.

There are no distinct edges. The cover glass curves around the sides to meet the anodized aluminum enclosure.

It is powered by the Apple A8 processor, which is supposed to provide 25% faster processing power and 50% faster graphics than its predecessor, the iPhone 5.

Like its rival Samsung Electronics, Apple has also gone the way of wearables by releasing the Apple Watch (iWatch), which will allow users to access and control the phone. It has a flexible retina display, and can be controlled via the “Digital Crown”, a dial attached to the side which mimics traditional watches, allowing the user to scroll, zoom, and navigate the device without covering the screen.
