Gemini now knows your travel history and photo library: Here’s how Pinoys can turn it on

MANILA, Philippines (Apr 2026) — Most AI chatbots are strangers. They know a lot about the world, but nothing about you. Google wants to change that with its latest update, giving Gemini access to your Gmail, Photos, and Search history to provide answers that actually make sense for your life.

The feature, called Personal Intelligence, is now rolling out to users in the Philippines. It allows the AI to connect dots across your apps, helping you plan trips based on past preferences or find specific details buried in old emails without you having to dig for them.

It’s not just a smarter chatbot

The update is powered by Gemini 3, which Google says is a significant leap in understanding nuance. Unlike standard models that treat every query as a blank slate, this version can distinguish between a generic question and one that requires your personal context.

For instance, if you ask it to plan a weekend in Tokyo, it won’t just give you a generic tourist list. If you’ve enabled the feature, it can look at photos from your 2023 trip and suggest spots you actually liked, skipping the places you ignored. It combines text, images, and video data to tailor the response.

Privacy is opt-in, not automatic

Connecting your digital life to an AI sounds risky, so Google built this with strict controls. The feature is off by default. You have to manually turn it on and choose exactly which apps to link, whether that’s just Gmail, just Photos, or everything.

You can also turn it off at any time. Google states that it does not train its core models directly on your private inbox or photo library. Instead, it uses limited information from prompts and responses to improve functionality.

Transparency is also part of the deal. When Gemini gives you an answer based on your data, it will try to cite where it got the information, such as a specific email or album. If it gets something wrong, like assuming you love golf because you have photos of your kid’s tournament, you can correct it directly.

Who can use it and how to start

The rollout is happening in phases. Currently, it is available for eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. Free users should get access in the coming weeks.

To enable it, open the Gemini app or website and go to Settings. Tap on Personal Intelligence, then select Connected Apps to choose what you want to share. Once active, it works across Android, iOS, and the web.

Since this is a beta release in the Philippines, you might still encounter some quirks. Google encourages users to hit the thumbs down button if the AI makes weird connections or gets facts wrong, helping it learn the difference between your interests and your obligations.
