KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan (June 2026) — A rising Pinoy actor is taking center stage in a Taiwanese film adaptation of one of the country’s most celebrated novels, marking another milestone for Filipino talent on the international stage.

Jeremy Mayores has landed the lead role in a short film adaptation of The Man with the Compound Eyes, an internationally acclaimed novel from Taiwan. The project is produced by Unseen Film Studios Taiwan and directed by Kaohsiung-based filmmaker Sun Chieh-Heng, who is known for his thoughtful storytelling and visually striking films.

Mayores plays Atile’i, the novel’s iconic “Second Son,” whose fate is tied to an ancient tradition that sends him on a life-changing journey across the sea. The story explores themes of destiny, cultural identity, survival and humanity’s relationship with nature.

The role adds another international credit to Mayores’ growing body of work. He has previously appeared in independent films including Agapito, Ang Halikan sa Water Fountain, Indigo, Kung Ang Ulan, Panulukan and Tara? Takbo!, where he built a reputation for emotionally grounded performances.

A growing international career

Filming in Taiwan also puts Mayores in the spotlight as one of the few young Pinoy actors leading an overseas production. His casting reflects the growing opportunities for Southeast Asian artists to collaborate across borders and reach wider audiences.

The adaptation introduces Taiwanese literature to new viewers while giving Filipino performers greater visibility in regional cinema.

Recognition at home, too

Mayores’ international project comes shortly after another career achievement. The Film Development Council of the Philippines selected him as one of the 20 finalists for The Masters Series: FDCP Acting Workshop for Filipino Talents.

The workshop will be led by acclaimed Filipino filmmakers Jose Javier Reyes, Laurice Guillen and Joel Lamangan, giving participants the opportunity to sharpen their craft under some of the country’s most respected directors.

Details about the short film’s release date have yet to be announced.
