PASIG CITY, Philippines (Jul 2026) — Tracking down that one mustachioed man hidden in a crowded scene was a rite of passage for many Pinoy kids growing up. Now, a century after his birth, National Artist for Visual Arts Larry Alcala is getting a massive homecoming at Ayala Malls The 30th.
The Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF) 2026 is teaming up with the Larry Alcala Estate to present “Larry Alcala 100 Years.” This special exhibition honors the man who captured the humor and warmth of everyday Pinoy life through his iconic “Slice of Life” series.
A century of laughter and lines
The showcase is split into two parts. First, the Larry Alcala Tribute Exhibit lets you look back at the life and artistry of the National Artist through selected reproductions and commemorative displays. It is a chance to see how his attention to detail helped shape the way Pinoys see themselves in art.
The second part, “Larry Alcala 100 Years x 100 Komikeros,” brings the story into the present. This collective exhibition features original works from 100 Pinoy comics creators across different generations. Each piece is inspired by Alcala’s influence, showing that his creative spirit is still very much alive in the local komiks community today.
Make your own art
In the spirit of the centenary theme, “Creativity Is For Everyone,” you do not just have to be a spectator. People attending the festival can create their own Alcala-inspired drawings and post them right in the exhibit area.
The exhibition opens with a reception on July 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. and runs until July 12. It will serve as a featured highlight for the main PICOF 2026 event happening from July 10 to 12.
Admission to the exhibit is free. You can find the display at the 3rd Floor of Ayala Malls The 30th in Pasig City.
