High schoolers can win big for space research with PhilSA’s new HiRAYA award

MANILA, Philippines (Jun 2026) — PhilSA wants to give science fair projects a literal lift.

The Philippine Space Agency is rolling out the PhilSA High School Research and Innovation Award to Yield Advancement in Space Science and Technology, or HiRAYA. The award goes to high school researchers whose projects align with PhilSA’s fields: national security, climate studies, space research, space industry, space education, and international cooperation.

Winners will be recognized at the Department of Education’s Regional Science and Technology Fair and the National Science and Technology Fair.

Through HiRAYA, PhilSA is betting that the next great Filipino contribution to space science is already sitting in a classroom somewhere, probably wondering if their science fair project is good enough. The agency wants those students to know it just might be.
