Meralco launches “The Good Store”, a sustainable lifestyle marketplace

Meralco strengthens its drive towards sustainability with the launch of its weekend sustainable lifestyle marketplace called “The Good Store”, which features eco-friendly goods such as single use plastic alternatives, sustainably-farmed produce and food products for the conscious consumer. Meralco’s “The Good Store” is also designed to become a platform for workshops, discussions, and sustainability education.

In its initial salvo, Meralco brought together products from retailers aligned with the company’s goal of reducing overall environmental impact. Some of these include The Igorot Crop, Zero Waste PH, Thai Vegan PH, Econest, and Siklo Pilipinas. A theater workshop in collaboration with Komunidad X was also staged, where kids and kids at heart were able to imagine “The Good Life”.

“We recognize that there is a growing number of consumers (among our employees and as well in our neighboring communities) who are placing greater value on mitigating climate threats. Our goal for ‘The Good Store’ is to build a community where social and sustainable enterprises and customers connect over shared values on sustainability, taking concrete steps and truly making an impact,” said Raymond B. Ravelo, Meralco’s recently-appointed Chief Sustainability Officer.

The Good Store is Meralco’s latest initiative in its campaign aimed at bringing forward sustainable and environmentally-conscious solutions. Previous efforts include the launch of eSakay’s electric jeep operation in the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong. Meralco also promoted the use of hybrid solar microgrids in previously underserved islands in Luzon, and recently, the launch of the One for Trees forest conservation program.

Meralco also established its Sustainability Office, which will drive the company’s efforts under the overarching program “Powering the Good Life”.

Following the launch, “The Good Store” will be open every first weekend of the month, from 7AM to 2PM, inside the Meralco Ortigas Compound (between Gate1 and Center Gate).
