ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. (ALKFI), through its Bantay Kalikasan (BK) program, commits to preserve and promote the beauty of Sohoton Caves and Balintak Falls located at BASEY, Samar – one of the areas hit by Typhoon Yolanda last year.

Sohoton Cave located at Brgy. Inuntan and Balintak Falls located at Brgy. Rawis are identified as protected areas under Samar Island Natural Park – Protected Area Management Board (SINP-PAMB). One of the commitments of ALKFI is to promote tourism destinations and livelihood programs for the victims of the typhoon, aside from distributing relief goods.

Inside Sohoton Cave are different unique rock formations. The local government unit, headed by Mayor Igmedio Ponferrada, will assist in developing the area as an ecotourism site. ALKFI also assigned a patrol boat and pledged to provide training for patrolling the sea, to protect marine biodiversity from dynamite and other forms of illegal fishing.

This endeavor is just one of the many projects of Bantay Kalikasan’s Green Initiative – a movement that aims to nurture and protect the environment with pathways that ultimately benefit the communities living in the area.
