CEBU CITY, Philippines (Apr 25) – Electric vehicle access is expanding across Cebu and the Visayas region, thanks to a combined effort by BYD Cars Philippines and ACMobility. The two companies are boosting the availability of both electric vehicles and the crucial charging infrastructure needed to power them, aiming to make sustainable transportation easier for Filipinos.
This push for electrification was highlighted by the arrival of the BYD Tech Tour at SM Seaside City Cebu, coinciding with ACMobility switching on new electric vehicle charging stations at 16 spots throughout the island province. These steps represent a major increase in EV support for Cebu and the wider Visayas area. With BYD bringing in more innovative EV models, ACMobility is focused on building the network needed for a smooth transition to electric driving across the region. Their shared goal is a future where electric mobility is practical and available to everyone in the Philippines.
Carla Buencamino, Head of Mobility Infrastructure at ACMobility, stated that this expansion puts electrification within easier reach for more Filipino communities. She added that as Cebu takes a leading role in the Visayas, they are creating a reliable and open EV charging network to keep up with the growing desire for sustainable ways to get around.
To spark further public interest in sustainable travel, BYD hosted its interactive Tech Tour at SM Seaside City Cebu from April 25 to 27. Visitors could check out BYD’s different technologies, test drive the latest BYD EVs, and receive discounts up to PHP 10,000.
BYD first entered the Visayas market in 2024 with the opening of BYD Cebu North, a full-service dealership through Global Star Motors. This was followed by additional locations at Ayala Center Cebu and IL Corso. The company plans to open three more dealerships to make electric mobility more accessible: Cebu Central, Cebu Toledo, and Cebu South. These upcoming sites are part of BYD’s broader plan to offer world-class electric vehicle experiences to Cebuanos and strengthen its presence in the region.
Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines, mentioned their expansion in Cebu shows their commitment to making sustainable mobility a reality for everyday Filipinos. He credited their partnership with ACMobility for ensuring the necessary infrastructure is ready to support every EV they introduce.
While BYD grows its presence in Cebu, ACMobility is advancing the region’s EV transformation by building a strong and expanding charging network. Through its Charge Forward plan and the national Philippine EV Spine program, ACMobility aims to have charging points active at over 35 key locations across the Visayas by the end of 2025. With charge points already operating at places like Ayala Center Cebu, Il Corso, and even on Bantayan and Camotes Islands, the network is designed to provide dependable access for EV drivers navigating city areas or exploring islands.
Buencamino also said that ACMobility’s Philippine EV Spine effort is crucial in shaping the future of electric mobility nationwide. She emphasized they are building the base for a strong national network of EV charging stations, ensuring all Filipinos have easy access to the infrastructure needed to confidently and conveniently switch to electric vehicles.
By partnering with groups like Ayala Malls, GlobalStar, Continuum Mobility Solutions, Prince Stores, City Time Square, and Club Filipino Cebu, ACMobility continues to guarantee reliable access to EV charging in busy city centers and areas that historically lacked such services. More partners and locations are expected in the future.
To provide reliable charging around the clock, ACMobility uses a paid system through the Evro app. This helps ensure 24/7 availability, consistent upkeep, and dependable service. Charging rates in Visayas start at ₱33.5 for AC and ₱38 for DC, which aligns with local energy costs while supporting a network built for long-term ease of use and peace of mind.
For better value, ACMobility offers flexible subscription plans ranging from ₱1,200 to ₱4,000. An alternative is Charge500, a one-time prepaid option offering the same discount without a full subscription. Each plan includes 30 days of charging credits and savings up to 20 percent, making owning an EV simpler, smarter, and more economical, no matter where your journey takes you.
The partnership between BYD and ACMobility represents a coordinated strategy to speed up EV adoption across the entire Philippines. While BYD drives innovation with its vehicles, ACMobility works to ensure the charging infrastructure is always ahead, supporting a smooth nationwide transition to electric mobility.
