PASAY, Philippines (Apr 2026) — Range anxiety might finally be a thing of the past for Pinoy drivers. At the opening of the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) 2026, BYD Cars Philippines just proved that electric travel is no longer a “someday” concept but a “right now” reality, punctuated by a record-breaking drive from Luzon to Mindanao.
Taking center stage at the World Trade Center is a special preview of two highly anticipated models: the BYD Sealion 7 and the BYD Atto 2. These additions aim to fill the gap between high-end performance and practical family mobility.
A duo for the modern Pinoy family
The Sealion 7 is a premium performance SUV designed to thrill. It features a sophisticated All-Wheel Drive system and a tech-forward cabin that merges luxury with intelligence. For those looking for a formidable contender in the premium EV segment, the Sealion 7 offers a bold, aerodynamic aesthetic that stands out on the road. Industry insiders project the price range for the Sealion 7 to sit between PHP 2,400,000 (approx. $42,480) and PHP 2,800,000 (approx. $49,560).
Complementing it is the BYD Atto 2 EV, a smart and stylish urban crossover. Perfectly sized for the modern Pinoy family, it is designed to balance everyday utility with a chic, contemporary design. While these two models are slated for an official launch later this year, BYD has already opened reservations at MIAS and dealerships nationwide for a fee of PHP 50,000 (approx. $885).
Guinness World Records and a cross-country test
To prove these cars can handle local conditions, BYD completed a nationwide journey with lead navigator Wil Dasovich. A convoy of 20 electrified vehicles traveled from the tip of Northern Luzon to the South of Mindanao, utilizing the “EV Spine”—a network of over 160 charging locations across the country.
The expedition snagged two Guinness World Records:
- Most cities visited in a continuous journey by an EV: Achieved by the BYD eMAX 7.
- Most cities visited in a continuous journey by a PHEV: Achieved by the BYD Shark 6 DMO.
Both vehicles visited 102 cities, demonstrating that the charging infrastructure is now robust enough for long-haul travel.
New faces and big discounts
The brand also introduced Multimedia Star Alden Richards as its newest ambassador, aiming to bring the “electrified lifestyle” to a broader audience.
For those ready to make the switch, BYD is offering MIAS-exclusive cash discounts of up to PHP 220,000 (approx. $3,895) on select models like the Sealion 5 DM-i, Shark 6 DMO, and Tang DM-i. Exclusive financing promos through BPI are also available for attendees at the World Trade Center until April 12.
