Cabalen Eat All U Can restaurant [review and giveaway]

Cabalen, one of the pioneer Filipino buffet restaurants in the Philippines, has just turned 30. What can we say about that?

Nowadays, when malls are full of fancy restaurants offering dishes from countries like Italy, Greece or the U.S., where can you bring your balikbayan titos and titas for some good Filipino food (outside your house, that is)? How about taking your family to one of the few Filipino-owned buffet restaurants that truly focuses on our beloved Filipino cuisine?

Cabalen Megamall Storefront

Here are more facts about the Filipino restaurant: Did you know that “cabalen” means “fellow” or “kumpare” in Kapampangan? How about this, the Cabalen restaurant empire started as a pasalubong store in 1974. The first Cabalen branch opened in West Avenue in the 80s, and Cabalen first offered Asian cuisine alongside Filipino favorites at its Megamall branch nearly a decade later. Now the Cabalen group of restaurants includes Soi, Mangan, Salusalo, Eat Pinoy and BKK Express. Astig, ‘di ba?

What’s even more astig is the updated buffet menu! Since 2016 is the West Avenue branch’s 30th year, all branches are set to offer new choices. New additions include Paella Vegetarian, Paella Negra, Paella Seafood, Callos, Bibingka, Suman Bulagta and even Native Chocolate.

At Cabalen, you and your family craving for good old-fashioned Filipino food can look forward to:
Cabalen Sisig and Fish Selections

Sisig comes in different meat variants: pork, chicken and bangus (which was surprisingly flavorful). There’s even a meatless variant, tofu sisig, for vegans. As always, pork sisig taste good. In this case, however, pork sisig is traditionally made and flavored, without the crushed chicharon on trend right now.

Cabalen Capampangan Dishes

Mainstays Ginisang Ampalaya and Chicken Afritada are served alongside newcomers Callos and Paella Vegetarian. These dishes have just the right amount of saltiness to bring out the original flavors of the main ingredients.

Cabalen Lechon Kawali

Lechon Kawali will always be a favorite, as it offers delectably crispy pork skin and tasty, tender meat.

Cabalen Restaurant Vegetable and Soup Bar

A vegetable salad bar is maintained cool and fresh, sitting nearby a cauldron of piping hot soup.

Cabalen Asian Food Lineup

Japanese favorites sushi and tempura are offered next to famous Filipino appetizers like Krispy Kangkong and Tokwa’t Baboy. They’re all good!

Cabalen Suman Bulagta

Desserts at Cabalen also hit the Filipino tummy. From make-your-own guinomis and halo-halo to fresh tropical fruits, you can’t go wrong with these treats for the Filipino sweet tooth.

Another surprising thing: Even on its 30th year, Cabalen buffet rates are still super affordable! Dine in for only Php398 per adult or just Php270 per child below 4 feet. Children below 3 feet eat for free!
