DHL Express, Brother Industries PH team up to slash carbon footprint

MANILA, Philippines — DHL Express and Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc. are strengthening their commitment to sustainability by partnering to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through DHL’s GoGreen Plus service. This collaboration enables Brother to cut its annual GHG emissions from international parcels by 30% using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and the innovative book-and-claim method.

DHL Express, a global leader in logistics, continues to set the standard in sustainable practices with a firm commitment to achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. The GoGreen Plus service, a key part of this commitment, offers customers the opportunity to reduce the GHG emissions of their international shipments through the use of SAF. Unlike traditional jet fuel, SAF is derived from renewable energy sources, sustainable plants, or waste materials, and it reduces GHG emissions by approximately 80%.

This partnership supports the Brother Group’s Environmental Vision 2050, which strives to reduce the environmental impact of its global operations. Brother adheres to internationally recognized standards, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, EN 16258, and the Global Logistics Emissions Council Framework, to measure and report its Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, covering both direct and indirect emissions throughout its supply chain. DHL Express also follows the Voluntary Market-Based Measures Framework for Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reporting by the Smart Freight Centre to calculate market-based impacts.

“GoGreen Plus empowers Brother Industries Philippines to significantly reduce its Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect GHG emissions in the value chain such as transportation and distribution,” said Nigel Lockett, Country Manager of DHL Express Philippines. “We hope this collaboration encourages more companies to embrace low-emission transportation services using sustainable aviation fuel.”

“Our partnership with DHL Express underscores our commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of the manufacturing and logistics sectors,” added Wataru Shimizu, General Manager of Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc.

DHL Express introduced the GoGreen Plus service in 2023, offering customers the ability to reduce the GHG emissions associated with international air freight through SAF. This initiative is supported by three major SAF contracts with bp, Neste, and World Energy.
