99% Spectrum efficiency: What DITO’s new ZTE tech means for Internet and mobile in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — ZTE Corporation has teamed up with DITO Telecommunity to introduce a game-changing upgrade in the country’s mobile connectivity landscape. This partnership focuses on deploying TDD Massive MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology, promising faster, more reliable mobile services for Filipinos.

Since its inception in 2019, DITO has emerged as a major player in the Philippine telecom industry, boasting over 13 million active users, 7,000 physical sites, and 86% nationwide coverage. With a growing demand for 4G and 5G services, DITO sought innovative ways to maximize its network efficiency, leading to this collaboration with ZTE.

The partnership recently piloted the 32T32R TDD Massive MIMO technology in high-traffic areas, yielding impressive results:

  • 99% improvement in spectrum efficiency
  • 92% increase in average cell traffic volume
  • 75% growth in connected users

These outcomes underline the technology’s ability to handle surging data demands while ensuring cost efficiency.

The success of this pilot has paved the way for an extensive rollout across the Philippines. With this deployment, DITO aims to enhance its spectrum utilization and deliver a superior user experience, ensuring Filipinos have access to high-speed, dependable networks.

“DITO is committed to bringing world-class connectivity to Filipinos,” said Rodolfo Santiago, CTO of DITO Telecommunity. “This partnership with ZTE goes beyond addressing today’s needs—it lays the foundation for a smarter, more connected future.”
