Duriam Chronicles, a ‘manga’ comic featuring younger versions of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is making rounds online.
Creator Voni BunBuns, a young illustrator from Cebu City, started the series out of boredom and a “need to practice male drawing”.
In the comic, Durterte stars as a “student council president”, while Santiago stars as his bestfriend, “Miri-chan”.
“Duriam” is a combination of “Duterte” and “Miriam”, a trend where Philippine couples combine their names to form a tandem. Duriam rose to popularity earlier this year because of what appeared to be support from both parties during the Presidential Debates
Voni admits that she does not have a story yet, and is looking for help in that area.
“I just needed suggestions because most of the comics/manga I have done before, wasn’t my storyline,” writes Voni.
She adds, saying “I am more of an illustrator than a story teller. My boyfriend and bestfriend will help me with the storyline but we are always grateful if you give your suggestions and feedback.”
The young artist also posted character designs for Mar Roxas. According to Voni, she is still still trying to restyle Sen. Grace Poe’s hair to “make her look younger”, after which she will proceed with Vice President Jejomar Binay.
