Duterte slams own son for dropping Cayetano, supporting Escudero in VP bid

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte slammed his own son, Davao Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte for endorsing Senator Chiz Escudero for vice president in the May 2016 elections according to the report of Halalan Pilipino.

Earlier, Mayor Duterte tried to downplay his son’s actions by saying that he cannot control his son or dictate the latter’s choices, as he is already 37 years old.

Based on the report of Inquirer, Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte has dropped his father’s running mate, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, in favor of Sen. Francis Escudero, the running mate of Rodrigo Duterte’s rival in the presidential race, Sen. Grace Poe.

The elder Duterte said his son was free to decide for himself.

On Thursday, Vice Mayor Duterte met with Escudero here and issued a statement later in the day.

“I choose Sen. Chiz Escudero as my VP given that he has significantly helped the city through his infrastructure projects and scholarship programs and by contributing to the Lingap Para Sa Mahirap and the Davao House of Hope,” said the vice mayor.

“These, to me, are reasons enough to choose him,” he added.

However, while campaigning in Bohol, Duterte told those in attendance not to listen to his son. “Ako ang pakinggan niyo…Sino ang susundin niyo, presidente o vice mayor lang?” he said.
