EastWest’s Magenta Race Honored as Best CSR Initiative by The Digital Banker

PHILIPPINES – EastWest, a rapidly growing bank in the Philippines, was recently recognized by The Digital Banker at the Global Retail Banking Innovation Awards for its outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The accolade was bestowed upon EastWest for its project, the “Magenta Race,” a virtual run/walk and cycle aimed at raising awareness and funds for breast cancer.

In its inaugural year, the Magenta Race brought together 145 EastWest employees, with 94 participating in the run/walk and 51 in the cycle race. The event successfully raised funds for breast cancer detection and prevention through the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care Inc. (PFBCI), also known as Kasuso.org. The choice of magenta, a deeper hue associated with cancer awareness, reflects EastWest’s commitment to this cause.

Proceeds from the registration fees, inclusive of Magenta Run shirts, were channeled as donations to PFBCI. Even those unable to participate directly in the race supported the cause by purchasing shirts or making outright donations.

During the award ceremony, EastWest expressed gratitude for the recognition while reaffirming its commitment to supporting women and fighting against breast cancer.

Carmina Jeanne D. Roque, EastWest Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications, commented, “We’re honored to receive the Best CSR Initiative Award. Breast cancer is a prevalent concern among women in the Philippines, and being a company largely powered by and led by women, we wanted to champion a cause close to many of our people’s hearts.” Roque further highlighted the dedication of EastWest’s employees and emphasized the determination to make a meaningful difference.

Continuing its advocacy for breast cancer awareness, EastWest launched its second annual Magenta Race, drawing 119 runners and 29 cyclists. The ongoing and future Magenta Race events aim to encourage more participation, whether through active involvement in the race or by supporting the cause through T-shirt purchases, recognizing every effort contributes to the battle against breast cancer.
