Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) passengers can now commute in style and comfort, thanks to the launch of a modern jeepney route connecting Lapu-Lapu City Public Market to the airport. Unveiled on December 16, 2024, these modernized jeepneys aim to provide a safe, reliable, and eco-friendly transport option for both passengers and employees.
Each vehicle is equipped with CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, and a 24-seat capacity, combining technology and efficiency. Passengers can enjoy a secure ride while contributing to sustainability, as the jeepneys meet Euro 5 emission standards. For just PHP 15 for the first three kilometers, commuting to MCIA is now more affordable than ever.
According to Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital GMCAC, this initiative is part of their mission to deliver a world-class passenger experience. “From the commute to check-in, we want every detail of the journey to reflect convenience, reliability, and excellence,” said Titonis.
The project is a collaborative effort between AGMCAC, UBE Express, and local stakeholders. The route connects the public market to MCIA’s Terminals 1 and 2, fostering better accessibility for tourists, employees, and locals.
As Cebu strengthens its role as a key business and tourism hub, this initiative bolsters MCIA’s position as a gateway for sustainable growth. The modern jeepneys are not just transportation—they’re a reflection of a greener, more connected future for the Philippines.
