MADRID, Spain – (UPDATED) Team USA defeats Serbia at FIBA World Cup finals to become the 2014 FIBA World Cup Champion. After an exciting and intense season, the team led by coach Mike Krzyzewski emerged victorious, pushing their undefeated FIBA record to 9-0. Team USA won decisively with a final score was 129-92, a whopping 37 point lead.

Team Serbia, led by Sasha Djordjevic, lost earlier to Brazil, France, and Spain. The highly anticipated game between USA and Serbia marks the end of the 2014 FIBA World Basketball Cup hosted by Spain.

The next FIBA world Basketball Cup tournaments won’t be happening until 2019. The tournament will feature an expanded set of competitors, increasing world stage from 24 to 32 teams. The location of the 2019 FIBA World Cup is yet to be determined, although the Philippines, headed by SBP President and Gilas Pilipinas head honcho, SBP Manny Pangilinan, has confirmed that it is seriously bidding for the chance to host the games.
