Two affordable electrified SUVs just landed in the same price band, and Filipino buyers are the winners. The Geely EX5 EM-i launched at ₱1.288 million for the Pro and ₱1.468 million for the Max, a plug-in hybrid promising up to 1,000 km of total range. Sitting just above it, the BYD Seal starts at ₱1.998 million for the Advanced RWD, a full battery-electric sedan with a 510 km range. Same ballpark, two very different ideas of what “electric” means.

Different powertrains, different buyers
The Geely is a “Super Hybrid” SUV aimed at families who want electrified efficiency without hunting for a charger, its 41.6 km/L combined figure and over 1,000 km total range claim (about 105 km of that EV-only) speak to exactly the hybrid-first market that now makes up nearly 80 percent of PH EV sales. The BYD Seal, by contrast, is a pure EV for the buyer ready to go full electric, a RWD sports sedan with a Blade Battery and an 8-year warranty. One removes range anxiety, the other removes the engine entirely.
How to choose
If your priority is practicality, cabin height, and never worrying about charging, the Geely EX5 EM-i at ₱1.288M is the value play, and it undercuts the Seal by about ₱700,000. If you want a proper electric car with sedan looks and RWD dynamics, the BYD Seal at ₱1.998M is the cleaner EV statement, and it lines up against the Tesla Model 3 as the more affordable choice. Either way, the sub-₱2M electrified SUV-and-sedan fight just got a lot more interesting, and it sits right next to the FMC Elektron’s ₱1.947M Deluxe as proof that the Philippine EV market is no longer a luxury tier.
