Go at Goen: The Japanese Ramen Shoppe

Go-en means ‘five yen’ What is the connection of coin to ramen?  For John and Marilyn, this symbolizes good luck, which is where the name comes from, Go-en: The Japanese Ramen Shoppe.

It was nice to visit a restaurant that could transport you to Japan without leaving the metro.

Go-en: The Japanese Ramen shop is located at Jardin de Zenaida at Sgt. Esguerra Ave, Quezon City

John and Marilyn frequent Japan to make sure that they maintain the standard of a real authentic Japanese restaurant.

To be able to appreciate their famous ramen, it was decided that we start with a milder taste and proceed to the other type of soup.

To start: let’s take a sip of their house blend Barley tea. This tea is roasted everyday so that it would taste amazing. You may not like it at first, but believe; once you get use to the taste, you will be asking for more.

First Ramen: Wonton Tomato.

The base soup is tomato, yes; you can use a tomato soup for your ramen. The taste is mild, light and fresh to our palate. My advice it eat it while it’s hot, therefore you can taste the tomato even better

2nd Ramen: Tantanmen Ramen

The base soup is made from sesame. For those who want their ramen not too spicy; this is the one for you. You have an all in one meal because of the noodle, the meat, veggies and egg

3rd Ramen: Kara-age Kare

The soup is curry base, of all the three; this one is my favorite. It’s also an all in one meal; pork is replace by chicken. You will love the after taste of the soup; believe me because I have to have my 2nd serving before I finally let go of the ramen.

Let now proceed to next

Kara age. You know its fried chicken, but what differs this from the rest; the way they use their breading. Breading is not an extender but a way of making sure that the chicken is still juicy and it gives you the right crunchiness. Make sure to leave some space on your tummy after the ramen so that you can order rice to go with it.
