SHENZHEN, China (July 3)—HONOR may have just set a new standard for foldable smartphones with the launch of its Magic V5, now the thinnest and lightest inward-folding device on the market.
Revealed in China on Wednesday, the HONOR Magic V5 pushes engineering limits, measuring a slim 8.8mm when folded and weighing as little as 217 grams. The device is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a 3nm chip designed for high performance and advanced AI capabilities.
A key innovation is the industry’s first 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery, a technology previously considered difficult to mass-produce. This new battery, which features 25% silicon content, achieves a high energy density of 901Wh/L, promising extended use. The phone also supports 66W wired and 50W wireless HONOR SuperCharge for rapid refueling.
The device features a large 7.95-inch inner screen for multitasking and a 6.43-inch outer screen for quick access. For durability, HONOR equipped the Magic V5 with IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance, an anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield on the outer display, and a robust Super Steel Hinge.
Photography is handled by the HONOR AI Falcon Camera System. This setup includes a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, a 50-megapixel wide camera, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, all enhanced by AI image processing.
Running on MagicOS 9.0.1, the phone’s YOYO assistant leverages AI to help users with tasks like creating presentations, sharing files, and managing daily activities, according to a press release obtained by our editors. The HONOR Magic V5 also supports the widest range of 5G bands among current foldable phones.
The HONOR Magic V5 is initially available in China with a starting price of RMB 8,999. HONOR has confirmed that the device will be launched in international markets later this year, though specific details for a Philippine release have not yet been announced.
