PHILIPPINES – Pinoy Tekken fans rejoice! Bandai Namco is introducing a Filipino character by the name of Josie Rizal. This hottie has short black hair, brown eyes, and a cute red ribbon on her hair. Josie’s name is derived from Philippine National Hero Jose Rizal, and fights using a combination of eskrima and kickboxing.
Eskrima, a word derived from the Spanish word for fencing, is a weapon-based martial art from the Philippines. Josie Rizal, however, does not use any weapons. Instead she uses hand-to-hand combat from Arnis, another name for Eskrima. Eskrima means Armor in Spanish and includes hand-to-hand combat techniques.
In a video taken at the Tekken 7 launch in Japan we can clearly hear the words “kickboxing” and “Pacquiao” – a reference that indicates inspiration coming from the Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.
Josie Rizal’s clothes are in red, yellow, and blue – colors inspired by the Philippine flag. Her top is a flirty yellow long-sleeve v-neck midriff with white folor designs, paired by a blue and red mini skirt.
For accessories she wears a choker, bangles, earrings, and belt that looks like the rays of the sun from the Philippine flag.
Overall her outfit looks like something that could top the Miss Universe national costume competition – only a bit sexier.
Josie’s introduction is confident, sassy, and energetic. However, she is also emotional and cries after winning a battle, saying “I can’t believe I won!” before going down in tears.
In one of her special moves, Josie Rizal can be heard shouting “Get ready to fly!” before proceeding send her opponent flying with an uppercut.
Indeed Josie Rizal has landed, and she is ready to kick some serious ass! \m/_
Tekken 7 will be released in arcades starting March 18, 2015.
