MANILA, Philippines – In a significant cultural initiative, Kapamilya artists Marlo Mortel, Angela Ken, and Maki teamed up with the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) to commemorate Filipino Values Month. This nationwide celebration aimed to foster a deeper appreciation for Filipino values among students.
The event, titled “Bálay Pinoy,” was a collaborative effort with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). It featured school caravans that visited key locations across the Philippines, including Oriental Mindoro in Luzon, Cebu in Visayas, and South Cotabato in Mindanao.
At Saint Pedro Poveda College, the culmination of the event was marked by interactive learning activities led by Marlo Mortel, who is known for his role as the former host of ‘Knowledge on the Go.’ The students also enjoyed special performances by Angela Ken and Maki, adding a layer of entertainment to the educational experience.
Further enhancing the educational impact, KCFI distributed ‘Wikaharian’ video lessons to various schools. These lessons, hosted by Teacher Michelle Agas, consist of 50 episodes dedicated to teaching children essential reading and language skills in Filipino.
Rina Lopez, KCFI president and executive director, highlighted the importance of the month-long celebration. “Empowering young minds of our nation, Filipino Values Month has become a beacon of cultural enlightenment,” she said. “Through initiatives like Wikaharian and the collaboration with NCCA and Bálay Pinoy, we aim to instill an awareness, appreciation, and love for Filipino culture in the hearts of our students.”
Renee Talavera, the head of the Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts Section at NCCA, emphasized the role of teachers in integrating these values into their teaching practices. She mentioned the NCCA Learning Hub, a digital platform where educators can access materials, including the Values Primer, animated series, and short films, to enhance their values education lessons.
This project, along with earlier initiatives like ‘Wikaharian’ and ‘Heneral Tuna,’ demonstrates the ongoing commitment of NCCA and KCFI to develop well-rounded Filipino students.
