Digitally restored LVN classic ‘Kakabakaba Ka Ba?’ streams on Sagip Pelikula Spotlight

MANILA, Philippines – A classic Pinoy musical-comedy film comes to today’s viewers as the latest installment of Sagip Pelikula Spotlight brings the digitally restored version of LVN Pictures’ 1980 film “Kakabakaba Ka Ba?” now streaming on KTX.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mike de Leon and co-written with Doy del Mundo and veteran actress Raquel Villavicencio, the revered musical classic brings an uncanny story of two couples embroiled in a warring conflict between Japanese and Chinese drug syndicates.

Foursome lovers Johnny (Christopher de Leon) and his flame, the flight steward Melanie (Charo Santos), and Johnny’s friend Nonong (Jay Ilagan) and his sweetheart Nancy (Sandy Andolong) then uncover a vital malicious plot that would baffle them all.

Also starring in the de Leon classic are Johnny Delgado, Armida Siguion-Reyna, Leo Martinez, Moody Diaz, Joe Jardi, Tommy Yap, George Javier, Nanette Inventor, Bert Miranda, and APO Hiking Society’s Boboy Garrovillo, and Danny Javier with a cameo from Jim Paredes.

First digitally restored and remastered in 2015 by ABS-CBN Film Restoration in cooperation with L’Immagine Ritrovata, the award-winning hit from LVN streams anew alongside attributed works of Raquel Villavicencio in remastered fashion as an homage to her various cinematic contributions.

In a pre-show interview with Film Restoration head Leo Katigbak, Raquel called for support for Sagip Pelikula’s efforts in restoring countless classics, especially in the golden age of Philippine Cinema, for the next generation of Pinoy audiences.

“Please support Sagip Pelikula. You’ll someday regret it if you do not appreciate Sagip Pelikula, or else you’ll never see films like these ever again without their efforts. It’s a gift from them,” she addressed.

Catch “Kakabakaba Ka Ba?” featuring an exclusive pre-show interview with Raquel now on KTX, priced at only P150 per pass.

Also featured on the latest installment of Sagip Pelikula Spotlight for Raquel are more of her attributed works, including “Himala,” “Saan Ka Man Naroroon,” “Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit,” “Ikaw Pa Lang Ang Minahal.” “Separada,” and “Sukob.”

Now in its eleventh year since digitally restoring its first title, Sagip Pelikula continues to remaster films from directors and writers of note for today’s viewers to appreciate. These efforts have earned multiple recognitions from award-giving bodies worldwide, including the prestigious Gold Quill Award given by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Gawad Pedro Bucaneg from Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL), and most recently the Gawad PASADO sa Pagsisinop ng mga De Kalibreng Pelikula distinction from the 23rd Gawad PASADO organized by Pampelikulang Samahan ng mga Dalubguro (PASADO).
