In the advent of modern technology where there are immense deviations in the creation, provision and utilization of information, there is a call for redefining the Library and Information Science (LIS) profession. Thus, the UP Future Library and Information Professionals of the Philippines (UP FLIPP) presents LibSpeak, UP FLIPP’s an annual premiere event that aims to give a clearer, better and more holistic perspective in the field of LIS.

Where: Main Library lobby, Gonzales Hall, University of the Philippines – Diliman

This year, LibSpeak focuses on re-branding the standpoints in the field of LIS. The event is comprised of a conference with selected speakers delivering career talks about LIS. In addition, the LibSpeak event includes several competitions, namely Junior LIS Wizard, Inter-High School On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest and Photography Contest. Winners of each contest will be taking home cash prizes with medals, and certificates.

Moreover, the organization, in partnership with Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – National Capital Region Librarians Council (PLAI – NCRLC), is introducing a new project content entitled “New Professional Series” which aims to create an avenue for new information professionals to discuss the issues that confront them, as well as their role and contribution to the LIS profession.

LibSpeak 2016: Redefining LIS will be held on February 1, 2016, from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM at the Main Library lobby, Gonzales Hall, University of the Philippines – Diliman. The event is open to the general public, with high school students as the contestants. Also expected to attend are new information professionals of the various colleges, universities and institutions.
