It’s official: Liza Soberano is DARNA. This is the caption that accompanied a photo posted by @StarMagicPhils on Instagram on Thursday, showing the actress holding copies of Darna comic books.
Soberano will be replacing Angel Locsin, who was set to star in the much-anticipated Darna live action movie announced back in 2014.
Since then, medical issues surrounding Locsin’s health prevented her from fulfilling the role. ABS-CBN announced in March that she will no longer be reprising the role.
Locsin played the role of Darna in the TV series that aired in 2005.
Netizens since then speculated on possible replacements. Liza Soberano was an online favorite, and several photoshopped images of her in Darna costume floated online.
