MDPPA holds product, branding seminar to help curb fake motorcycle parts


Q4 sales projections, 2026 forecast, and “No to Counterfeit” campaign also discussed

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) recently held two major events last November 4 aimed at strengthening consumer protection and forecasting industry growth as the Philippine motorcycle sector continues to expand.

The first event was a Product and Branding Seminar that was held at the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) Multi-Purpose Hall in McKinley Hill, Taguig City, designed primarily to capacitate the national coalition for the Intellectual Property Rights (NCIPR) Enforcers, whose members include delegates from NBI, PNP, PNP-DILG, BOC, & DTI. At the same time, it also aims to equip employees of MDPPA member brands and other stakeholders with the tools and knowledge to help them differentiate genuine motorcycle parts from counterfeit ones.

Citing the increasing circulation of counterfeit motorcycle components especially in e-commerce platforms, and how it poses a direct threat to rider safety and product reliability, MDPPA said the seminar was designed to empower motorcycle stakeholders with knowledge that will aid them in curbing the proliferation of fake parts.

“Being able to tell what’s genuine and what’s counterfeit is not just about brand protection. It’s about making sure that every Filipino rider gets home safe, and this seminar reinforces that commitment, aligning with the objectives of MDPPA’s Tropang MAALAM,” said Erwin Estrada, Vice President of MDPPA, in his welcome remarks.

Later in the day, MDPPA convened a press conference where it presented its sales forecast for the remainder of 2025 as well as its early projections for 2026.

From January to September 2025, MDPPA has recorded a total of 1,398,314 motorcycle units sold nationwide. The association also expects over 395,000 additional units to be sold between October and December, bringing the 2025 year-end total to 1,793,219 units, a 6.7 percent increase from the 1,681,482 units sold within the same period in 2024.

Looking ahead to next year, MDPPA is projecting a continued upward trajectory with a forecast of 4 percent in terms of industry growth, pushing projected 2026 sales past the 1.85-million mark.

“We remain optimistic, especially as motorcycles continue to be the go-to mobility option for Filipinos due to their affordability, fuel-efficiency, how easy they are to maintain, and how they can get through traffic faster, which are all real, everyday needs we’re addressing,” said Alex Cumpas, President of MDPPA.

The press conference also served as the launchpad for MDPPA’s “No to Counterfeit” Campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of counterfeit motorcycle parts by promoting product integrity, reinforcing public safety, and encouraging responsible purchasing behavior.

“This campaign is for every rider who deserves peace of mind. Counterfeit parts are more than just low quality, they can put lives at risk, which is why we’re calling on everyone to help us build a safer, more honest motorcycle industry,” said Cumpas.
