Muntinlupa City just took a bold step for the environment. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Muntinlupa City Government have launched a Rapid Composting Machine and Materials Recovery Storage Facility at Alabang Central Market. This groundbreaking initiative is all about turning trash into treasure—biodegradable market waste into nutrient-rich compost.
The facility’s main focus? A greener future for everyone. By reducing landfill-bound waste, it supports sustainable agriculture and urban greening. This isn’t just about technology; it’s about creating a cleaner, more livable Muntinlupa. And the best part? It’s a blueprint for other cities in Metro Manila to follow.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Deed of Donation (DOD) were signed by MMDA’s General Manager Usec. Procopio G. Lipana and Muntinlupa Mayor Rozzano Rufino B. Biazon. These formalize roles in operating the On-Site Solid Waste Management Processing and Recovery System. The machine processes biodegradable waste into compost, making sustainability a community effort.
MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando S. Artes lauded the collaboration. “This is what teamwork looks like,” he said. “This machine reduces waste and sets an example for Metro Manila to promote sustainability and a circular economy.”
Mayor Biazon emphasized personal responsibility: “Solid waste management is everyone’s duty. The trash we create impacts our lives unless managed properly. Let’s be advocates for environmental care by managing our waste responsibly.”
Aligned with the Metro Manila Flood Management Project, the facility tackles flooding and landfill overflow. It’s more than just waste management—it’s about long-term sustainability and resilience.
The new composting facility offers a glimpse into Muntinlupa’s future: efficient, eco-friendly, and community-focused. By empowering locals and modeling green practices, this project is set to redefine urban waste management across Metro Manila.
