Boxer Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Jr. admits he suffered from childhood bullying and having asthma before he became a world-class fighter.

“When I went to the US, I didn’t know how to speak in English. I was a small and thin boy. So I was the target of every bully in the playground,” Donaire recalls in “Tapatan Ni Tunying” airing this Thursday (May 15).

“I couldn’t protect myself no matter how I wanted to. I was helpless. I couldn’t even punch them because they were bigger than me,” Donaire adds.

In the episode, Donaire shares how he faced discrimination in his younger years and how he strived to become the world champion that he is now.

While Donaire prepares for an upcoming fight against South African WBA/IBO featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka on May 31, former senator Francis Pangilinan also faces a new challenge as the newly appointed presidential assistant for food security and agricultural modernization tasked to clean up the Department of Agriculture, which has been facing charges of corruption under the leadership of agriculture secretary Proceso Alcala.

Pangilinan, however, clarifies he will not take over the position of Sec. Alcala but will support him in dealing with agricultural issues.

“I can work with anybody. I won’t have any problem as long as we work in the same goal and in the right way. He is the Batman and I am the Robin. We shall help each other,” Pangilinan says.
