MANILA, Philippines (Mar. 2026) — The nubia Neo 5 GT is positioning itself as a serious contender in the budget gaming smartphone space, offering features typically reserved for higher-end devices. In this gaming review, the focus shifts from specs to real-world performance — and the results are promising.

Gaming tools and setup
Right out of the box, the nubia Neo 5 GT emphasizes its gaming-first identity through its Game Space launcher. This dedicated hub allows users to tweak performance modes, enable mistouch prevention, customize LED lighting, and activate features like barrage notifications for real-time alerts while gaming.

The phone also supports “Rise” performance mode, which prioritizes CPU and GPU resources for maximum gaming output. For optimal results, users can enable 144Hz refresh rate within Game Space — as it is capped at 120Hz on the system level — and activate bypass charging (charge separation) to reduce heat during extended sessions.

Real-world gaming performance
In Genshin Impact, one of the most demanding mobile games today, the Neo 5 GT delivered impressive results. Running at the highest graphics settings and 60fps target, the device maintained an average of around 45 to 50 FPS — a strong showing for a phone in this price segment.

Even with the cooling fan turned off, performance remained relatively stable, although enabling the fan helped sustain consistent frame rates over longer sessions.

Other titles performed just as well:

  • Call of Duty: Mobile (or similar FPS titles): Stable 90 FPS gameplay with responsive shoulder trigger controls
  • Mobile Legends: Consistent 120 FPS gameplay at high settings
  • CarX Street: Smooth gameplay with high graphics settings and responsive trigger mapping

The inclusion of dual shoulder triggers adds a tangible advantage in competitive gaming, offering faster input and a controller-like experience.

Cooling and sustained performance
The built-in cooling fan proves to be more than just a gimmick. Benchmark tests show lower temperature increases and more stable sustained performance when the fan is enabled.

Thermal throttling tests revealed only around a 12–14% performance drop under stress — relatively controlled for a gaming phone in this category. The fan also helps maintain performance consistency over time, making it ideal for long gaming sessions.

Benchmark scores

  • AnTuTu: ~1,040,000 points
  • PassMark: 15,251 points
  • PCMark: 14,263 points
  • Storage speeds: ~500MB/s read/write

These numbers reinforce the phone’s positioning as a capable gaming device, although storage speeds remain typical for the segment.

Battery life
The Neo 5 GT’s 6,200mAh battery delivers solid endurance, lasting:

  • 10 hours and 16 minutes (fan on)
  • 10 hours and 28 minutes (fan off)

The minimal difference suggests users can keep the fan enabled without significantly impacting battery life — a worthwhile trade-off for better thermal performance.

Verdict
The nubia Neo 5 GT delivers where it matters most for gamers: stable frame rates, effective cooling, and practical gaming features like shoulder triggers and bypass charging.

While it may not lead in camera performance or storage speed, it excels in its intended purpose. Combined with an expected price range of PHP 17,000 to PHP 20,000 in the Philippines, it stands out as one of the most compelling gaming phones in its class.

For gamers who prioritize performance over everything else, the Neo 5 GT is an easy recommendation.
