MANILA, Philippines – Intel Philippines showcased a series of devices that will lead its lineup for 2016 at a press event held in Taguig City on Thursday.
The innovations include the Intel Skylake, Intel’s 6th Generation processors and successor to the Haswell micro-architecture.
Increases in computing power combined with lower power consumption enable devices to provide enhanced performance while increasing battery life.
This includes up to 60 percent improved mobile multitasking in the new quad-core Intel Core i5 processor. It also opens doors to other possibilities, such as overclockable laptops.
Aside from improvements in computing, Intel Philippines reiterated its push for 2-in-1 devices, something that was prevalent in 2015.
Unlike traditional laptops and notebook computers, these “convertible” devices take mobility to the next level by transforming into an even smaller form factor, similar to tablets and mobile smartphones.
Intel Philippines also provided updates in the IoT (Internet of Things) arena, in the form of the Intel Curie module, a small chip the size of a button designed for use in wearable devices.
The module contains built-in sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes that can be used to track data in real-time. A demonstration showed how the product was used to track information in athletes such as elevation, speed, and orientation – something that was previously not possible.
Finally, Intel showcased its accomplishments in pushing better education in the Philippines by empowering students and members of the academe with the latest technological tools.
This includes Galileo development boards and shock-proof notebook computers aimed to replace heavy books that students have to lug around.
