MANILA, Philippines – ABS-CBN journalists bagged major awards for their efforts to combat the spread of misinformation and disinformation at the Pagdasig Awards 2022 given by the communication students of Leyte Normal University in Tacloban City.

ABS-CBN reporters Jeff Canoy and Jacque Manabat were named Best TV Reporter for the male and female categories, while ABS-CBN News Digital Media’s Angela Coloma and Karl Cedrick Basco won the awards for Best Online Female News Writer and Best Online Male News Writer, respectively.

Sharon Evite-Carangue, an ABS-CBN regional correspondent, was named the Best Local/Regional News Writer in Leyte and Eastern Visayas.

On TeleRadyo’s “Sakto,” Jeff expressed his gratitude for the honor. “Thank you for the award. This kind of recognition is very important especially nowadays that we are really in need of press freedom,” he said in Filipino.

The awards ceremony was streamed live on Facebook recently by the BACommUNITY, the student organization behind the awards.

“As misinformation and disinformation have become more rampant nowadays, it is only right to recognize the media’s frontrunners who tirelessly fight the widespread of fake news,” stated the student organization’s Facebook Page.
