QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) is ushering in 2024 with a groundbreaking collection of theater performances. Themed ‘Control + Shift: Changing Narratives,’ this collection aims to reshape and reclaim stories of the Filipino people through innovative and socially relevant theater.
The collection features eight new works, including the re-staging of ‘Kumprontasyon,’ which will be showcased at the PETA Theater Center from January 12-14 and 19-21, 2024. Highlights include ‘Momsilogues,’ exploring the lives of single mom vloggers, and ‘Ang Mga Halimaw sa Compound Z,’ a play delving into the myths of monsters and their psychological impact on Filipino youth.
Other notable performances like ‘Albularyo’ and ‘Children of the Algo’ offer unique perspectives on Filipino folk healing and the digital age’s challenges, respectively. ‘Kislap at Fuego’ takes audiences back to the Philippine Revolution, while ‘/’ (Slash) confronts the complexities of influencer culture and friendship.
‘Ang Parangal’ humorously depicts the ineptitude in governance, and ‘Nakatala Sa Tubig’ is a powerful discourse on women’s roles in wartime. Lastly, ‘Pilipinas, Geym Ka Na Ba?’ presents a thrilling adventure through childhood games with dark twists.
