SEOUL, South Korea (Mar 2026) — A timid lawyer who can suddenly see and be possessed by ghosts sounds like a lot to handle in court — and that is exactly what makes Phantom Lawyer worth watching.
Rakuten Viki has announced the premiere of the legal fantasy K-drama, which stars Yoo Yeon Seok and Esom and has already climbed to No. 1 on Viki’s Southeast Asian charts since its March 13 debut. The show currently holds a 9.6 out of 10 rating from more than 700 viewer reviews on the platform.
What the show is about
Yoo Yeon Seok, best known for his roles in Hospital Playlist and When the Phone Rings, plays Shin Yi Rang — a clumsy, soft-spoken lawyer who moves into an office previously owned by a shaman. He discovers a mysterious incense stick that gives him the ability to see and communicate with restless spirits, and eventually be possessed by them as they seek justice from beyond.
That setup leads to a series of comedic and chaotic courtroom situations, with Yi Rang taking on cases tied to the unresolved grievances of lingering souls.
Esom, known for Taxi Driver, plays Han Na Hyun, a sharp and skeptical elite lawyer who initially dismisses Yi Rang’s supernatural claims. The two gradually form a working partnership, blending legal strategy with methods no law school textbook would cover.
What has been getting attention
Beyond the supernatural premise, the drama has drawn buzz for Yoo Yeon Seok’s on-screen range — including scenes where his character appears in a female hanbok, full makeup, and dancing to K-pop girl group songs. In a recent SBS interview, the actor said he was looking forward to audiences seeing a new side of his acting through the role.
Thematically, the show weaves together redemption, unresolved stories, and the pursuit of justice through an unconventional lens, giving it a tone that sits somewhere between courtroom thriller and supernatural comedy.
Phantom Lawyer is now streaming on Rakuten Viki for viewers in the Philippines, Southeast Asia, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Oceania, and India.
