Philippine Book Festival 2026 Launches “Rainforest of Filipino Stories,” Celebrating Local Literature and Creativity

The Philippine literary community is gearing up for the return of the Philippine Book Festival (PBF) 2026, which aims to spotlight Filipino authors, illustrators, and publishers while promoting local stories to a broader audience.

Organized by the National Book Development Board (NBDB), the festival will run from March 12 to 15, 2026 at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. The event serves as the country’s largest marketplace dedicated exclusively to Filipino-authored books and publications.

This year’s festival carries the theme “Gubat ng Karunungan” (Rainforest of Knowledge), a concept that reflects the diversity and richness of Filipino storytelling. The theme envisions the local literary landscape as a thriving ecosystem where various genres—from children’s literature and comics to academic and contemporary works—grow and connect with readers.

A platform for Filipino writers and publishers

Since its launch, the Philippine Book Festival has been positioned as a national initiative to expand access to quality and affordable Filipino-authored books while supporting the growth of the country’s publishing industry. The festival also seeks to address long-standing challenges in the distribution and visibility of local titles.

Aside from serving as a marketplace for books, the event will host a variety of activities including book signings, workshops, exhibitions, and masterclasses for readers, students, educators, and aspiring writers. Several interactive spaces will also be set up to encourage engagement between the literary community and the public.

One of the festival’s highlights is the 43rd National Book Awards, where outstanding Filipino authors, editors, illustrators, and publishers will be recognized for their contributions to Philippine literature.

Strengthening the country’s reading culture

Officials say the Philippine Book Festival is part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s reading culture and establish the Philippines as a strong hub for creative storytelling in the region.

By bringing together writers, illustrators, publishers, educators, and readers in one space, organizers hope the event will foster collaboration within the literary community while inspiring more Filipinos to discover and support local stories.

As the fourth edition of the festival approaches, the NBDB continues to emphasize that Filipino literature is not merely a niche sector but a vital part of the nation’s cultural identity and creative economy.
