Killer trucks: should LTFRB ban old trucks?

LTFRB ban old trucks

Broadcast journalist Ted Failon examines the proposed old truck ban by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) that will disallow trucks older than 15 years from travelling on the road in “Failon Ngayon” this Saturday (August 2).

Last July, four out of five members of Icban family were killed when an old 18-wheeler truck hit their car on their way to the mall. The truck driver, on the other hand, claimed that he hit the brakes, but that the road was too slippery as it rained on the afternoon of the accident. This is just one of the many reported accidents involving old trucks due to lost of control and faulty brakes or tires.

Will banning of old trucks on the road really help avoid this kind of incidents? What is the public’s opinion on the issue?

This week episode of “Failon Ngayon” also features Chonalyn, the 100th million baby in the Philippines. It also tackles income tax and how much a taxpayer should pay.
