TAGUIG CITY, Philippines – Smart Communications, Inc. has partnered with Uber Philippines to provide free in-car high-speed WiFi to the commuting public.

Initially available to select Uber Black vehicles, the service will slowly roll out to all Uber vehicles over the coming months. Smart subscribers who sign up for Uber for the first time also get to enjoy two free rides worth up to 300 PHP each from September 9 to September 30.

As Uber’s official mobile partner in the Philippines, drivers and partners will enjoy exclusive voice and data packages, as well as exclusive phone offers from Smart.

“We’re excited to partner with Uber, the world’s leading technology company that is transforming urban mobility, to bring its innovative digitally enabled service to more commuters in the Philippines,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, PLDT and Smart Chairman.

“Filipinos are early adopters of new technology and through this partnership with Uber, we’re providing our subscribers the opportunity to make their ride experience even more convenient and enjoyable,” he added.

The announcement was made at a press conference held in Taguig City, where members of the media were given a chance to ride the new Tesla Model S, a full size electric sedan owned by Pangilinan.

Mike Brown, Regional General Manager for Uber, expressed his  admiration for the Philippine Government’s leadership in pushing for alternative transportation services.

“The Philippine Government has shown tremendous leadership in recognizing the value of ride-sharing services like Uber and developing new sector specific regulations,” says Mike.

“It is also why Filipinos today, become the first in Southeast Asia to experience the next generation of truly connected urban mobility,” he added.
