Are you a sneaker fan? As someone who loves sporty footwear, I am just super excited to share my experience with the Sperry 7 Seas (Carbon Blue) which I recently got from Shopee Philippines!
First, let’s take a moment to admire its glorious design and quality construction:
And, just because we took too many photos than we actually needed for this article, here’s another shot … from another angle.
Are we done drooling?
Okay so check this out: First, the body is 100% made of multilayered fabric. Apparently, this breathable construction is called “omnivent”. It allows your feet to breathe and stay cool in the SCORCHING Philippine weather. The black inner layer is stretchable, so it hugs your feet like glove … or a sock.
Come to think of it, aren’t all shoes just simply socks with a rubber cushion underneath? Maybe socks are just shoes without rubber cushions?
Anyway, this variant comes with “grips” on both the tongue and the collar. As someone who likes snug-fitting shoes but couldn’t be bothered to use a shoehorn, these handles are a God-send. Not only does it makes putting it on a breeze, it also keeps me from stepping on the collar and beating it down. Nothing sucks more than a shoe with a battered collar.
Unless you like converting shoes to sandals, in which case, carry on.
We have the 3-eyed version, and the eyelets are fabric which makes threading the laces a breeze. Speaking of which, it comes with round shoelaces which I personally prefer over flat ones because you don’t have to worry about the way it looks. Nothing triggers my OCD more than mis-aligned flat laces.
The top piece and heel areas are made of reinforced fabric. It’s tougher than the rest of the shoe so it keeps your feet stable when moving around, so you can also use it as trainers for running and sports activities. I personally used it in the gym and found it to be reasonably stable.
What’s more, the top piece is made of hydrophobic mesh with what Sperry calls “Hydropel” technology. Supposedly, it sheds water and dries quickly. Care to guess what I did when I found out about this technology?
Yup, naturally I just HAD to test it. You know, for science.
Did it work? Well, it doesn’t completely keep the shoe from absorbing water like those magic hydrophobic sprays, but it does repel minor splashes like light rain. It might keep your feet dry when it drizzles, but don’t expect to get through a heavy downpour unscathed.
Its rubber sole is made of two layers: a soft white midsole and a hard outsole. The midsole looks gorgeous with its nice pattern, while the outer sole is made of harder material. There are terrain traction pods for enhanced grip on land and something called razor-cut “Wave-Siping” to prevent slippage in uh, slippery situations. Like when you step on a random banana peel while walking down the road which happens almost all the time.
Finally, the Carbon Blue variant looks absolutely stunning, and you can see from all the positive comments on the Shopee product page that it’s a solid purchase. “What you see is what you get”, and that’s true.
I mean, the shoe looks exactly like it does in the photo, which is surprising because other sellers edit their product shots to look good, so it drives your expectations up only to be disappointed when the actual item arrives.
It retails at Php4,795 but you can get it for around Php3,350 which to me is good value for the quality. Using our trademark Starbucks economy over here at ASTIG.PH, this translates to around 17-24 venti caramel frapuccinos which is almost nothing because we all consume at least 50 Starbucks venti frapuccinos a day.
