MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Comedienne Tia Pusit died on October 2, 2014 at 11:29PM. The cause of death was multiple organ failures resulting from her operation last September 9. She was 66 years old.

Tia Pusit’s sister Nova Villa told ABS-CBN News that Tia Pusit endured a host of medical complications, including brain hemorrhage.

Tia Pusit, who was battling kidney failure and aortic aneurysm, had been confined at the Heart Center in Quezon City since April of this year.

Early September, Tia Pusit’s children were trying to raise money to finance two very expensive operations: the placement of a stent draft worth P450,000 and a double bypass heart surgery, a hybrid procedure for her aortic aneurysm amounting to P400,000.

In addition, Tia Pusit’s close friend and colleague Inday Garutay organized a concert, scheduled for October 5.

Inday Garutay, whose real name is Christopher Borja, told ABS-CBN News that the show will still push through. The proceeds will be used to support Tia Pusit’s funeral.

According to Nova Villa, the Startalk comedienne had to undergo dialysis every other day.

Known in real life as Myrna Villanueva, Tia Pusit was born on March 23, 1948 and rose to fame for her unique, feisty brand of comedy. She is known for her roles in the television series Maria Clara, One True Love.

Tia Pusit recently finished working on Ikaw Lamang, where played nanny and confidante to Kim Chiu.
