Transgender activist-model Geena Rocero takes the spotlight on ‘The Bottomline’

MANILA, Philippines – Transgender activist and model Geena Rocero takes the spotlight this Saturday (May 23) in “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” to talk about her advocacy for transgender people and equality in the Philippines.

Rocero has been a successful model for ten years in the USA. But on her 30th birthday, Rocero gained attention when she decided to come out as transgender and talk about her past in the Philippines, including being assigned male at birth.

During her TED speech, she did not only speak of her experiences in transgender beauty pageants but also highlighted how transgender people would be economically disempowered if they were not socially accepted. She also started ‘Gender Proud,’ an organization that aims to advance transgender rights.

On this Saturday’s episode, Rocero also shares insights about transgender sex workers. What is her perspective on the Laude-Pemberton case? How true are the claims that transgender people are only culturally visible but not politically recognized?

Don’t miss the 23rd KBP Golden Dove Awards Best Public Affairs Program “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” this Saturday, after “Banana Split: Extra Scoop.” For more updates, log on to www.abs-cbn.com or follow @abscbndotcom on Twitter.
