MANILA, Philippines (June 5, 2025) — UnionDigital Bank (UD), the digital banking arm of Union Bank of the Philippines, has launched the “Kaya Mo Movement,” an initiative designed to foster financial inclusion for millions of unbanked Filipinos. The movement aims to empower individuals by making digital banking accessible and understandable, especially for first-time users.
The “Kaya Mo” initiative targets the 37.6 million Filipino adults without bank accounts, including sari-sari store owners, ride-sharing drivers, daily wage earners, and informal workers. It emphasizes empathy, scalability, and sustainability in its approach to digital financial services.
During a recent launch event, UnionDigital Bank brought together ecosystem partners, digital inclusion advocates, fintech leaders, and community representatives. Attendees heard personal accounts from microentrepreneurs, illustrating the daily financial challenges faced by underserved Filipinos. These stories underscored the bank’s mission to provide accessible credit, savings, and digital financial tools where they are most needed. Wealth coach Chinkee Tan also led an interactive session on budgeting, saving, and responsible borrowing, stressing the importance of financial education for long-term empowerment in these communities.
Dr. Danilo “Bong” Mojica II, President and CEO of UnionDigital Bank, stated that financial inclusion guides the bank’s growth and service to communities. He highlighted the bank’s focus on designing technology around people to help every Filipino manage their financial journey. Mojica noted that the “Kaya Mo” movement seeks to partner with customers and communities, enabling them to start, recover, and thrive financially.
UnionDigital Bank’s product suite supports the “Kaya Mo Movement,” offering solutions tailored to the needs of underserved Filipinos. The UD Save account promotes financial resilience with no minimum balance and zero maintenance fees, removing common barriers for new savers. The UD Time Deposit allows customers to begin building long-term savings with as little as ₱1,000, making it the only digital bank in the Philippines with such a low entry point. UD Loans, the bank’s existing credit offering, is currently available through a microsite for select UnionBank payroll clients and pensioners, providing flexible installment terms for essential needs like healthcare.
Upcoming offerings include UD Cash Loans, a simplified digital loan product to be launched via the UD app, designed for first-time borrowers without requiring collateral or extensive documentation. The bank will also introduce a virtual card powered by VISA, enabling secure online transactions without a physical card. Future features will include early wage access, allowing workers to access their salaries ahead of payday, and microinsurance to protect users from unexpected life events. These innovations are intended to provide Filipinos with the confidence and tools for financial advancement.
Mike Magpily, Chief Marketing Officer of UnionDigital Bank, affirmed that “Kaya Mo” is a commitment to making financial inclusion tangible. He emphasized that the bank is providing practical products that help Filipinos manage their money, from obtaining loans to saving for emergencies and handling daily expenses through a digital bank built for real-life situations.
A panel discussion at the event featured representatives from mWell, a digital health and wellness platform, and Hapinoy, a social enterprise supporting microentrepreneurs. Mark Joaquin Ruiz, Co-Founder and President of Hapinoy, shared how UnionDigital Bank’s support has helped sari-sari store owners shift from day-to-day survival to long-term financial planning. He stressed that when technology and empathy converge, communities can thrive.
UnionDigital Bank leverages alternative data to extend credit to customers who lack traditional financial histories, often excluded from formal financial systems. By continuously refining its credit models, the bank aims to responsibly serve more Filipinos while effectively managing risk.
The event concluded with UnionDigital Bank representatives and partners affirming a shared commitment to uplifting Filipinos. Mojica reiterated that the bank is refreshing its service approach to be a true partner in every Filipino’s financial journey, from daily needs to future security.
