Youth has a power— and it should be amplified— now more than ever.
Despite being in a pandemic, the Philippines is set to cast its vote on the 2022 National Elections this May 9, 2022. Several sectors, including the youth, are set to choose who, among the candidates, will be the next leaders of the country in the next few years. According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), 52% of the total registered voters will come from the youth. With their increasing participation in the PH political landscape, it is crucial that their voices are amplified and listened to, especially in today’s political climate.
Thus, the UP Organization of Business Economics Majors (UP OBEM) gears up for its second virtual installment on one of the country’s biggest annual youth economic conventions— Econ No-Mix. With the theme, Amplify: Channeling the Youth’s Role in Shaping the PH Political Landscape, Econ No-Mix will be held this 12th-13th of March 2022 via different online platforms. The two-day convention and competition series shall bring together top-performing high school students nationwide and promote economics and its application in real-life situations. Together, they shall explore through the lens of public policies, with a particular focus on the various ways in which youth can exercise their right to participate in politics beyond voting and how active political participation can improve economic outcomes.
Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect for this year’s Econ No-Mix:
