The University of the Philippines – Diliman College of Science (UPD-CS) recently held an Objectives, Goals, Strategies, and Measures (OGSM) Workshop to promote innovation and industry collaboration. Organized by the UPD-CS Innovation Committee under the Science and Society Program (SSP), the workshop aimed to empower researchers to develop practical, utilizable outputs from their research and foster connections with industry partners.
The workshop, attended by Innovation Committee members, Deputy Directors for Research and Extension, and individuals with experience in technology transfer, focused on sparking discussions around innovation. Dr. Lerrie Ann Ipulan-Colet, SSP Director, introduced the CAPE Innovation Program for 2023-2025, which stands for Collate and Categorize, Build Awareness, Prepare researchers, and Exposure and Immersion. This initiative aims to promote scientific advancement by encouraging research, collaboration, and the protection of research outputs.
Engr. Rolando Lazo, Innovation Committee Consultant, facilitated the workshop, covering key topics such as the rationale behind innovation, statistical insights, and a summary of the pre-workshop meeting held on October 14. Participants also engaged in group discussions to share their experiences with innovation strategies, highlighting both successes and challenges.
The workshop provided valuable insights into the innovation process, with attendees expressing hope that the discussions would lead to tangible outcomes. The second day of the workshop, scheduled for this year, will delve into the concept of societal impact and include a value proposition exercise to refine participants’ understanding of their innovative research.
This initiative underscores UPD-CS’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration, ultimately contributing to scientific advancements that address the challenges faced by the Philippines and beyond.
