Urban Renaissance: Sustaining Our Cities’ Heritage, Present, and Future Through Urban Tourism Regeneration [event]

MANILA, Philippines — Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), together with several institutional partners, has launched an exciting competition: “Beyond the Lens: Urban Exploration Documentaries.” This nationwide documentary contest invites students to spotlight urban life through creativity and sustainable tourism.

The contest, open to both PUPian and non-PUPian students, challenges participants to craft visual stories that celebrate Filipino urban culture. Teams of four students will first submit a 30-second trailer showcasing a chosen city’s unique charm as a travel destination. From this, five finalists will advance to create a 5-7 minute short film.

Round one focuses on visual storytelling, while the final round emphasizes depth, highlighting culture, landmarks, and the everyday life of the city. The competition aims to inspire responsible travel by incorporating eco-friendly themes, promoting sustainability while uncovering local gems.

Winners stand to earn cash prizes, certificates, and gift items, with the champion documentary receiving PHP 4,000. Other awards include Best Trailer, Best Cinematography, and People’s Choice.

Submissions are accepted via Google Drive until December 31, 2024. For more details, visit the official Urban Renaissance 2024 social media pages:
