MALABON, Philippines (Jun 2025) – Tech giant Xiaomi Philippines transformed a public school classroom into a high-tech learning hub, installing smart televisions, air purifiers, and AI-powered devices as part of the Department of Education’s annual Brigada Eskwela program.

The Chinese smartphone maker partnered with World Vision to create what they call a “Xiaomi-Powered Room” at the Malabon public school, complete with smart fans, security cameras, mesh wifi systems, a digital projector, and robotic vacuum cleaner.

Dozens of Xiaomi volunteers, including expatriate staff, joined Filipino employees in painting classrooms and cleaning school grounds ahead of the new academic year. The initiative goes beyond traditional community service by integrating modern technology into Philippine public education.

“It always needs a village to educate a child. The school alone cannot do that,” said School Head Nenita Rivera during the classroom unveiling ceremony. “We are so grateful to have partners from World Vision and Xiaomi. This help will be very beneficial for our teachers and students.”

The tech donation addresses critical infrastructure gaps in Philippine public schools, where many classrooms lack basic amenities like proper ventilation and internet connectivity. Xiaomi’s smart devices aim to create a more comfortable and connected learning environment for students.

Tomi Adrias, Xiaomi Philippines marketing head, emphasized the company’s commitment to educational accessibility. “We’re honored to play a part in making better learning environments. Efforts like this help Filipino students dream bigger, reach further, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.”

World Vision Program Manager Alma Acub highlighted the partnership’s impact on bridging educational challenges. “We cannot do it alone, which is why this type of partnership will really help our students improve their learning experiences.”

The Brigada Eskwela program mobilizes communities nationwide to prepare public schools before classes resume. Xiaomi has participated since 2024, expanding beyond basic maintenance to technology integration.

Students and teachers can now access digital learning tools, improved air quality through smart purifiers, and enhanced security through connected cameras. The mesh wifi system ensures reliable internet access for online resources and remote learning capabilities.

Public schools across the Philippines face ongoing challenges with outdated facilities and limited technology access. Corporate partnerships like Xiaomi’s provide crucial support for modernizing classrooms and improving educational outcomes.

The initiative reflects growing corporate involvement in Philippine education, with technology companies increasingly contributing resources and expertise to public schools nationwide.
