Hyundai is going back to boxy. The carmaker pulled the wraps off the fifth-generation 2027 Tucson on August 19, trading the old swoopy crossover curves for an angular, rugged ‘Art of Steel’ look that is a deliberate leap from the outgoing model. It is a world-debut story, not yet a Philippine launch: no PH price, date or trims have been announced.

Bigger, squarer, tougher

The new Tucson grows in every dimension, sitting on a 2,785 mm wheelbase, up 60 mm, with a longer, wider and taller body than before. The upright glasshouse, flared fenders and a full-width headlight bar give it more presence, and the designers say it is built to read as tougher and more architectural on the road.

Dimension New 5th-gen Tucson Change
Length 4,700 mm +60 mm
Width 1,905 mm +40 mm
Height 1,685 mm +30 mm
Wheelbase 2,785 mm +60 mm

Inside, a cockpit-first redesign

The cabin leans hard into screens and minimalism. There is a large central display paired with a slim instrument cluster that doubles as a head-up display, running Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect Android-Auto-based infotainment. A column-mounted shift-by-wire replaces the old console shifter, and there are dual wireless charging pads plus a built-in card holder in the center console.

The rugged XRT variant

For buyers who want the boxy look actually capable, Hyundai is offering an XRT off-road style variant, with a chunkier grille, wider skid plate, unique alloy wheels and tougher interior trim. Interior configs also open the rear doors up to 83 degrees, per the reveal materials.

Powertrain and Philippine timing

Hyundai has not yet confirmed powertrains for the new Tucson, though a hybrid/plug-in hybrid lineup is widely expected given the current model. Just as importantly for Filipino buyers, official Philippines pricing, availability and trims are still unannounced; the global rollout runs from late 2026 into 2027. Reports of a locally assembled unit are about the Malaysian market, not the Philippines, so local fans are still waiting on Hyundai Philippines.

Positioning in a crowded segment

The Tucson lands as the compact-SUV fight gets louder, with the BYD Sealion 08, the XPeng X9 and a renewed Toyota RAV4 all pushing for the same buyers, and a hybrid push reshaping the under-three-million segment. A bigger, tougher, screen-heavy Tucson is Hyundai’s answer, though its Philippine price tag is the number everyone is really waiting for.
