MediaTek M90: The Future of 5G Connectivity with AI Optimization

MANILA, Philippines (Feb. 2025) — MediaTek has unveiled its latest 5G-Advanced modem, the M90, at Mobile World Congress 2025, pushing the boundaries of speed, efficiency, and connectivity. Designed to meet 3GPP Release 17 standards and align with future Release 18 specifications, the M90 boasts peak download speeds of up to 12Gbps and a 20% improvement in uplink performance. It supports both sub-6GHz (FR1) and mmWave (FR2) connectivity, along with dual 5G SIM dual-active functionality.

A key feature of the M90 is MediaTek Modem AI (MMAI), an AI-driven technology that optimizes power efficiency, device performance, and connectivity. By analyzing data traffic patterns and device orientation, MMAI ensures improved power consumption and lower latency. Additionally, MediaTek’s Smart Antenna technology enhances signal reception, achieving 99.5% accuracy in identifying operating environments and increasing data throughput by up to 30%.

“The advanced AI and 5G features in our M90 modem enable device manufacturers to deliver superior performance with greater design flexibility,” said Mingxi Fan, Senior General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Technology Group. “MediaTek continues to push the boundaries of 5G-Advanced, laying the groundwork for next-generation networks and the transition to 6G.”

The M90 modem integrates satellite connectivity through 3GPP IoT-NTN for low-data applications and NR-NTN for high-speed services, expanding coverage beyond terrestrial networks. It also incorporates MediaTek UltraSave technology, reducing average power consumption by up to 18% compared to its predecessor, extending battery life without compromising performance.

MediaTek is actively collaborating with global partners—including network operators, device manufacturers, and infrastructure providers—to advance 5G technology. Recent achievements with the M90 include:

  • Attaining 11.6Gbps peak download speeds on 5G NRDC FR1+FR2 with Keysight.
  • Leading 5G FR1 SA 6CC carrier aggregation trials with Verizon and Samsung, reaching 5.5Gbps peak speeds.
  • Demonstrating near 10Gbps download speeds in a live 5G NRDC FR1+FR2 network with Telstra and Ericsson.

Engineering samples of the MediaTek M90 are expected to be available in the second half of 2025. For more information, visit the MediaTek booth (#3D10) at MWC 2025.
