GCash is warning Pinoys about fake QRPh payment pages used by illegal gambling sites

MANILA, Philippines (Apr 2026) — GCash is flagging a new scam that Pinoys need to watch out for, especially if they use QR codes to pay online.

The mobile wallet has identified and blocked multiple accounts linked to illegal gambling websites that were using fake GCash payment pages and fake merchant accounts to collect payments from unsuspecting users. The scam works by presenting what looks like a legitimate GCash or QRPh payment screen, tricking users into sending money to fraudulent accounts.

GCash has not disclosed how many users were affected, but the fact that multiple accounts were caught and blocked suggests the operation was widespread enough to warrant a public warning.

Here is what to watch for before scanning any QR code or completing a payment:

Always verify that the merchant name displayed on the payment screen matches who you are actually paying. Legitimate GCash payment pages will show verified merchant details. Be cautious of any payment page that looks slightly off, has unusual formatting, or redirects you to an unfamiliar screen. Avoid making payments on gambling or unverified platforms that are not registered with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

If you suspect you have encountered a fake payment page or have already sent money to one, report it immediately through the GCash app or contact GCash support. Do not share your MPIN, OTP, or account details with anyone.

GCash is urging users to stay alert and verify every transaction before confirming payment.
